A family farm. A patch of highveld. A door left open.
01
A family retreat, opened up.
Winkwater has been in our family since 1987 — bought as a weekend retreat for the family members who co-owned it, never a commercial farm. Over the years it slowly opened its doors: first to friends, then to friends of friends, now to anyone who wants to slow down for a few days. The whole property goes to one party at a time, so when you're here, you're really here on your own.
02
The land.
A patch of rolling Mpumalanga highveld, with grassland, riverine forest, a spring-fed dam, a waterfall, and the night sky you forgot existed. Resident antelope, blue cranes, fish eagles, and a long list of LBJs for the birders.
03
How we host.
We don't do bells and whistles. There's no spa, no restaurant, no day-tour package. We hand you the keys to the whole place, point at the dam, and leave you to it. If you need anything, we're a phone call away.
In short
A family retreat, gently shared.
In family hands since 1987 — two houses joined by a shared lapa, plus a separate outside room, on a small private reserve in Mpumalanga. Booked by one party at a time, sleeping up to eighteen. We don't advertise widely. Most guests come back.
